As a nonprofit organization, the Grace Baca Foundation is dedicated to empowering dancers of all ages and backgrounds. Our mission is centered on providing resources, opportunities, and encouragement to aspiring dancers, enabling them to pursue their passion and achieve their full potential. Our foundation has provided more than $3,000 worth of scholarships within the first few months of inception. Our goal is to provide access to the art of dance to children of all ages and abilities at the studio of their choice.
Join us in advocating for awareness that can help create a better future for victims of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle accidents, are the leading cause of death in children. Of all the types of TBIs, brain injuries are the most likely to result in death or permanent disability. We will work effortlessly to support and aid adolescent survivors of TBIs while also advocating for change to ensure reckless drivers are held responsible for their actions. Despite a lengthy criminal record, the man convicted of causing the accident that tragically took Gracie's life was only charged with a misdemeanor resulting in 30 days of jail time. During the time period between causing Gracie's fatal accident and pleading guilty in an Adams County Court, this specific driver was also charged with driving under the influence. We must protect our children by advocating to keep multiple offenders off the road and educating our community on TBIs.
Dance stimulates our sensory systems by helping to rebuild the pathways between cognition and motor skills, this is promising news in terms of what dance might offer to rehabilitate a brain's ability to move functions from a damaged area of the brain to an undamaged area. Research has shown that there has been a considerable acceleration in the rehabilitation process in a chronic condition of an extremely severe TBI after the goal-directed applied dance rehab intervention.
